DE LA PRESENCIA A LA AUSENCIA / FROM THE PRESENCE TO THE ABSENCE

Descripción Statement
My work examines the questions of identity and alterity, by dissecting the connections between art, culture and society. It is a journey, a questioning that I develop across the different mediums in visual art, installation and performance.
Since 2004, the sixty-odd performance scenarios that I have created relate to this questioning, where a unique individual becomes a being cross-bred and torn within itself, within all the currents, rites, emotions and values that it experiences. In summary, it is a process of accumulation and maturation in time and space, sensitive to create a resonance and to push one’s limits in relation with the Other. This method permits me to deepen the presence of my being and to naturally anchor the body actions to the context of each presentation.
The original performance I propose as a project for Deformes would last about thirty minutes. It will take the form of a performance “in the moment”, possibly soliciting the involvement of the public. The work could take shape in the construction of a temporary installation and in the elaboration of a set of related actions. The objects used will refer to domesticity, animalism, and the savage state.
The preponderance of absence of presence in performance can already be found in my work. This realisation finds itself in the perspective of taking the space necessary with soundness, aware of the audience without overwhelming them with my ego. Also, my particular cultural perspective makes me re-question my options during a performance, especially in a foreign country due to the reality of the new location.
